What is this?

Every clue is real evidence, and every accusation has to be backed by proof, not a hunch.

This is investigation as it actually feels: messy, data-driven, and ridiculously satisfying when it all clicks.

What you'll be doing

  • 🗄️ Writing real SQL queries to dig through case data
  • 🔍 Analyzing forensic reports & DNA evidence
  • 📞 Tracing phone records & call logs
  • 📄 Reading interview transcripts
  • ⚖️ Filing subpoenas to unlock new evidence
  • 🧩 Spotting patterns & solving evidence-based puzzles
  • ⏱️ Piecing together timelines of who-was-where-when

No prior SQL knowledge required — but if you know your way around a database, you'll feel right at home. The learning tools will bring your SQL knowledge up to the level needed to attack this case.

Current Build

This is an early alpha demo — one case, fully playable, start to finish. It's rough around the edges and we're actively building, but it's a real taste of the core loop: gather evidence, run the data, build your case, make the accusation.

We'd love your feedback. Seriously — bugs, confusing moments, things that felt great, things that didn't. It all helps.

How to Play

Everything happens at your desk and inside the terminal. Use the tabs to move between your case file, terminal (SQL), inbox, contacts, database, timeline. Interview suspects, subpoena records, and when you think you've got enough to make it stick — make your case.

A Note from the Dev

This is a passion project built solo/indie. When I was learning SQL I found a serious lack of genuinely engaging learning tools, outside youtube tutorials and practice datasets. So the idea was born and i've been trying ever since to make something that blends genuine hands on data use and investigative work with something that's actually fun to play. If you like detective games, data, puzzles, or just appreciate something a little different — give it a shot.

Really love the concept, though I wish it wasn't timed. In addition to it being my first exposure to SQL, there's so much detail in the game that I'd love the time to dig through and appreciate. The level interactivity is amazing!

Thanks for the feedback NYCAPA. The case itself isn't timed, but yes there is a 48hr (48minutes real time) counter after submitting an incorrect conviction. In my head it injects a bit of stress and urgency into the case, though 48 minutes is still quite substantial time to dig further into the case an resubmit a conviction. I'm still collecting play test feedback, so i'm sure a number of things (like this) will be addressed for the next patch. Thanks so much for the feedback and come back for case 2, it's gonna be naughty.

I should also mention that Boz really kicks into gear once that 48hr timer activates (only on an incorrect conviction) She will give some great advice on areas of the database to dig into - she tracks your searches and can really help to guide you towards the answer, if you are ever stuck. There was a big patch last night that massively improved her tracking of the players tasks and queries run. I also removed the game over condition on second incorrect submission. So you can now make unlimited convictions until you find the killer.
